A Marathon Effort Worth Celebrating

A Personal Challenge for a Worthy Cause

On Saturday 5th July, one of our amazing team members here at Kellands Plant Sales laced up their walking boots and took on the Macmillan Mighty Hike – a 26.2 mile marathon trek along the beautiful but brutal Jurassic Coast in Dorset.

The walk was no small feat. Covering the full distance of a marathon, it tested even the most seasoned hikers. But every mile walked was a mile closer to raising funds and awareness for Macmillan Cancer Support, a charity that continues to do vital work supporting people living with cancer across the UK.

With 1,390 participants in total, the atmosphere was both humbling and uplifting. Everyone on the route had a story – a reason for walking – whether in memory of a loved one or in support of someone going through treatment.

An Unforgettable Experience

The day was as emotional as it was physically demanding. There were moments of challenge – tough hills, tired legs and aching feet – but also moments of genuine joy, laughter and camaraderie. One highlight? Being handed sweets by volunteers after tackling a particularly steep hill – a small gesture that lifted everyone’s spirits at just the right time!

From start to finish, the organisation of the event was faultless. Macmillan’s volunteers were incredible – always ready with snacks, drinks, encouragement and a friendly face when it was needed most. It really made the difference on such a long and demanding route.

Pride, Purpose and What’s Next

Here at Kellands Plant Sales, we’re immensely proud to have team members who not only work hard for our customers and partners but also step up for causes that truly matter. This challenge was about more than just miles – it was about purpose, people and pushing personal limits.

Whether this was a one-off or the first of many adventures, we know this won’t be the last time we’re sharing proud moments like these.
