What is the Develon 9 Series?
The Develon 9 Series is the manufacturer’s next generation of smart crawler excavators. The European range currently includes four heavy models:
- DX230LC-9: a 23.6-tonne machine with a 1.2 m³ bucket capacity and maximum power of 189.1 HP.
- DX260LC-9: a 26.3-tonne excavator with a 1.4 m³ bucket capacity and maximum power of 229.4 HP.
- DX360LC-9: a robust 37.2-tonne model with a 2.03 m³ bucket capacity and maximum power of 300.4 HP.
- DX400HD-9: a heavy-duty 42.2-tonne machine with a 2.22 m³ bucket capacity and maximum power of 336.6 HP.
That spread gives earthmoving, infrastructure, demolition and quarrying businesses a choice of machines for applications ranging from general excavation and utilities to bulk earthmoving and heavy-duty production work.
More productivity with lower fuel use
Develon says the 9 Series can deliver up to 20% more engine power and 8% lower fuel costs. A fully electronic hydraulic control system replaces traditional mechanical pilot controls, allowing the machine to manage hydraulic energy more intelligently while giving the operator smoother, more precise response.
Productivity-focused technology includes:
- On-board weighing: helps operators monitor material volumes and load trucks more consistently.
- Smart Breaker functions: Breaker Assist and Auto Breaker help reduce blank firing, component wear and repetitive operator input.
- Smart Control 2D and Machine Guidance 2D: support accurate digging and grading with less guesswork.
- 3D-ready integration: the 9 Series control architecture supports upgrades to Trimble Earthworks and Leica MC1 3D machine-control systems.
These systems are designed to make good operators even more consistent while helping less experienced operators reach productive working levels sooner.
Intelligent safety around the machine
Busy construction sites place people and equipment close together, so visibility and early intervention matter. Available 9 Series safety technologies combine cameras, radar and AI-based human detection to improve awareness around the excavator.
- Smart All-Around Viewing Monitor: provides a 360-degree view using six cameras.
- Human Detection System: distinguishes people from surrounding objects and provides visual and audible warnings.
- E-Stop: can reduce movement and automatically stop swing or reverse functions when a person enters a defined danger zone.
- Virtual Wall: lets the operator establish working limits to help avoid overhead, underground or surrounding hazards.
- Advanced Lift Assist: shows available lifting capacity and warns of potential tipping risk, including when working on slopes or uneven ground.
Develon Europe states that its safety platform can detect from up to 13 metres, issue warnings and reduce speed from six metres, and stop relevant machine movements from four metres. A cab designed around the operator
The 9 Series cab has been developed to make long working days more comfortable and controls easier to personalise. A large high-resolution touchscreen brings machine information, camera views and working functions together in a clear interface. A dual-screen option can provide additional split-screen views for more complex operations.
Next-generation joysticks, customisable controls and ambient lighting help create a more intuitive working environment. Stick-steer functionality also allows track travel through the joysticks, which can be useful when repositioning in confined areas.
Predictive maintenance and longer service intervals
Uptime is just as important as digging performance. Prognostics and Health Management technology monitors critical machine systems, including hydraulic oil, engine oil and main pumps, to help identify developing issues before they cause unplanned downtime.
With maintenance intervals of up to 1,000 hours, the 9 Series is designed to spend more time working and less time being serviced. MY DEVELON connectivity also supports fleet visibility and remote machine management.
