Develon has launched an upgraded version of its DX35Z-7 mini excavator, bringing more engine performance, improved visibility, easier access and enhanced maintenance to this compact zero-tail-swing machine.
Designed for construction, demolition, landscaping and utility work, the Stage V compliant DX35Z-7 combines a compact working footprint with the hydraulic performance and stability needed for demanding applications. The latest updates focus on the details that matter on site: power, operator control, transport, service access and comfort throughout the working day.
What is new on the upgraded Develon DX35Z-7?
The most significant change is the new Develon DW01 diesel engine. Producing 18.4 kW (25 HP), it replaces the previous D17 engine and provides increased power and torque for heavy-duty work.
Develon has also revised the boom swing geometry, cab access, cooling arrangement, lighting, service points, auxiliary hydraulics and arm pipework. Together, these changes make the upgraded DX35Z-7 more capable and easier to operate without compromising the compact dimensions that make mini excavators so useful.
Key upgrades include:
- New Develon DW01 Stage V engine
- Zero-tail-swing design for confined work areas
- Revised boom swing point and 60Β° left/right swing
- Wider cab entrance and easier access
- Improved visibility through the windscreen
- Higher auxiliary hydraulic flow for attachments
- Improved maintenance access and battery jump-start connection
- Additional counterweight for balance and stability
- Faster arm-in and arm-out response
- Develon Fleet Management telematics
More power from the Develon DW01 engine
The upgraded DX35Z-7 uses Develon’s DW01 Stage V compliant diesel engine, delivering 18.4 kW at 2,150 rpm. Develon states that its higher power and torque are intended to provide stronger performance for demanding excavation and attachment work while supporting efficient, lower-cost operation.
For contractors using a compact excavator across different tasks, dependable power delivery can make a practical difference. It helps the machine maintain productivity when digging harder ground, grading, lifting or running hydraulically powered attachments.
Zero-tail-swing performance for restricted sites
The DX35Z-7 has a zero-tail-swing layout, meaning the rear of the upper structure remains within the track footprint as the machine slews. This helps operators work more confidently where space is limited.
Typical applications include:
- Residential and commercial landscaping
- Roadside and utility work
- Groundworks close to buildings
- Small demolition projects
- Urban construction sites
- Sites with restricted access or narrow working areas
The compact layout can reduce the space needed around the excavator, but operators still benefit from a full cab, useful reach and a maximum digging depth of 3,445 mm.
Improved boom control and visibility
Develon has moved the boom swing point 75 mm to the right and changed the swing angle to 60Β° on both the left and right. This provides greater positioning flexibility when trenching close to obstacles or working alongside walls.
Boom swing operation has also moved from a foot pedal to a thumbwheel control on the joystick. Keeping the function at the operator’s fingertips can make control more intuitive and frees up floor space around the pedals.
Forward visibility has been improved through several cab changes:
- The revised boom position increases the operator’s visual range
- The radio has been repositioned
- The windscreen wiper angle has increased from 60Β° to 89Β°
These apparently small changes can make a meaningful difference when judging bucket position, monitoring people nearby and working accurately in tight spaces.
Better cab access and operator comfort
Access to the cab is easier thanks to a greater stand tilting angle and an entrance widened from 363 mm to 404 mm. Once inside, the operator benefits from an upgraded cooling layout that changes from a suction-type system to a blower-type arrangement, helping to improve engine heat dissipation and reduce heat around the seat.
A new orange seat belt provides a clear visual reminder, while a double-insulator system helps reduce engine exhaust noise. Additional external cab lights improve visibility around the machine in low-light conditions.
For owner-operators and fleet users spending long hours in the cab, these improvements support a more comfortable and less tiring working environment.
Stronger attachment performance
The DX35Z-7 provides a high auxiliary hydraulic flow of 74 litres per minute, giving operators the flexibility to use a broad selection of compatible attachments.
The arm pipe diameter has increased from 3/8 inch to 1/2 inch. According to Develon, this improves hydraulic response and increases arm-in speed by 3% and arm-out speed by 15%.
Faster arm response can help with loading, trenching and repetitive cycles, while the additional 100 kg counterweight supports balance and stability when the machine is working with attachments.
Easier servicing and transport
Develon has improved access to the hydraulic oil filling point and added a retractable cover. Battery maintenance is supported by a new jump-start feature, helping technicians and operators deal with low-battery situations more conveniently.
The intake system now uses a two-stage air cleaner with inner and outer filters. A new clip arrangement simplifies filter replacement, while the monitoring and alarm system notifies the operator when a filter change is required.
Additional tie-down points make it easier to secure the excavator correctly during transport between sites. This is an important practical improvement for plant hire businesses, contractors and owner-operators who move compact equipment regularly.
Develon Fleet Management telematics
The latest Develon Fleet Management system collects information from sensors on the DX35Z-7 and makes machine data available through a telematics platform. Depending on the service and configuration, telematics can help owners monitor machine use, operating hours and maintenance requirements.
For larger fleets, this can support better service planning and make it easier to understand how equipment is being used across different sites.
